Where to Rent a Basant Rooftop in Lahore

Walled City, Gulberg, Johar Town and DHA: what each part of Lahore offers for a Basant 2027 rooftop, and what it costs you in access and traffic

The area decides three things about a Basant roof: what you can see from it, how hard it is to get to, and most of what it costs. It decides almost nothing about whether the roof is safe, which is the part people assume it covers.

This is a guide to what the different parts of Lahore are actually like on the day. For what any of it costs, what rooftops cost in Lahore has the 2026 figures and what moves them.

The Walled City

Delhi Gate, Bhaati Gate, Mochi Gate, Rang Mahal. This is the one everyone means when they say "a Basant roof", and it is a different product from everywhere else on this page.

What you are buying is the skyline — the old city packed roof to roof, the Badshahi Mosque and the fort in the distance, and kites in the air in every direction rather than just over your own head. At the top of this market the skyline is the whole purchase; the flying is almost incidental to it.

What you are paying in: access. The lanes do not take cars, the walk in is long with equipment, and on the festival days the whole area is dense with people. Parking is somebody else's street. Many of the buildings are old, which makes the structural question sharper here than anywhere else, and the staircases are the narrowest in the city — which is usually what caps the capacity, not the roof.

Book these earliest. They were reported gone well ahead of the festival in 2026, and the prime ones went first.

Gulberg

Central, reachable, and the roofs are mostly on newer buildings with wider stairs and proper boundary walls. The view is other rooftops rather than the old city, which is a real loss if you came for the skyline and no loss at all if you came to fly.

Gulberg suits a group that is driving in from several directions, because it is the one everybody can reach without crossing the city. Expect to pay for that convenience without getting the Walled City premium view.

The older inner suburbs

Shadman, Garden Town, Model Town, Iqbal Town, Wapda Town.

Established residential areas with generous plot sizes, which tends to mean a bigger slab and an outside staircase rather than a route through the house. For a family gathering this is often the best trade in the city: enough room, straightforward access, parking on the street, and none of the Walled City's logistics.

The view is flat. If the point of the day is the flying rather than the photographs, that costs you nothing.

The planned suburbs

DHA, Bahria Town, Johar Town, Askari, Cantt.

Newer construction, so parapets and structure are more likely to be sound without work, and the roofs are often larger and easier to get a crowd onto safely. Parking is the easiest in the city.

Two things to check before you commit. Distance — these are a long drive from the old city, and if half your group is coming from inside Lahore you are asking them to cross it on the busiest evenings of the year. Access rules — Cantt and Askari are administered areas and entry for a group of guests can need arranging in advance. Ask the owner how visitors get in before you assume they can.

What the area does not decide

This is the part worth being blunt about. A roof in DHA is not safe because it is in DHA, and a roof in Mochi Gate is not unsafe because it is old.

The standard is the same everywhere in Punjab: boundary walls and safety grills at least 3.5 feet and structurally sound, no flying from structurally unsound roofs, no overcrowding, children supervised. The full rooftop standard sets it out, with a 30 December 2026 deadline for roofs to meet it.

What changes by area is the odds, not the rule. Newer construction is more likely to clear the bar without work; an old inner-city roof may clear it beautifully or fail on one unguarded corner. Either way you check it in person, not from the postcode and not from the photographs.

Whether the gathering needs an NOC is also the same question everywhere — it turns on the gathering, not the address. When a rooftop gathering needs an NOC covers it.

Getting there on the day

Worth thinking about before you pick, because it is the complaint afterwards.

Basant 2027 runs 12 to 14 March, three consecutive days. The weekend days inside that window are when the city moves, and the roads around the Walled City in particular are not a normal drive. If you are bringing elderly relatives, small children or a lot of equipment, an area you can park in is worth more than a view you photograph twice.

The visitors' guide covers getting around Lahore over the festival if you are coming from outside the city.

Which areas have roofs listed

The rooftops board can be filtered by area, along with capacity, the days a roof is free, parapet height and NOC status. It is owners listing their own roofs, so what is available in any given area depends on who has come forward — if nothing is listed where you want, that is a thin market rather than a closed one, and it is worth asking.

If you own a roof in one of these areas and it is sitting empty, listing it is the other side of the same page.

Frequently asked

Which area has the best rooftops for Basant in Lahore?

For the view, the Walled City — Delhi Gate, Bhaati Gate, Mochi Gate and Rang Mahal. For space, access and parking, the older suburbs like Model Town and Garden Town, or the planned ones like DHA and Johar Town.

Why are Walled City roofs so much more expensive?

They are sold on the skyline rather than the floor, and in 2026 the best of them reached figures nothing else in the city came near. What rooftops cost in Lahore has the ranges and what moved them.

Is it easier to park near a suburban rooftop?

Considerably. The Walled City lanes do not take cars at all, and on festival days the surrounding streets are full.

Does the area change the rooftop safety rules?

No. The 3.5-foot parapet, the ban on unsound roofs, the supervision and the overcrowding rule apply across Punjab. Newer areas are more likely to meet them without work, which is not the same thing.

Can I rent a rooftop outside Lahore?

Kite flying is only permitted where the Government has allowed it, and that list is not the whole province. Basant outside Lahore sets out where it is legal for 2027.

Kites, dor and everything that goes with them

Once the roof is settled, the rest is a short list. Kites by the tawa grade, 100% cotton dor on QR-coded pinnay, gloves and tape — all sold singly from Lahore at a published price. See the products and prices.

Selling is paused while our registration is suspended by the Punjab Government — see the notice. The products and prices stay published so you can plan, and we answer questions either way.
