Kites and Dor on OLX or Daraz

Kite dor on OLX and kites on Daraz are easy to find and hard to trust

A crowd of buyers holding kites up in a Lahore market in the run-up to Basant

Search OLX for kite dor and you will find it, with a price and a phone number. Search Daraz for kites and you will find those too. Neither tells you the one thing that decides whether the purchase is legal: whether the person selling is registered to sell it.

This page is about marketplace listings specifically. Buying from an online shop with a named business is covered on the buy kites online page, and checking any seller's registration is on the kite shop near me page.

What the law says about selling

Under the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2025, selling kites or permitted equipment without registration is an offence in its own right, carrying one to five years. Selling prohibited string — chemical, glass-coated, nylon or metallic — carries five to seven years and a fine of up to Rs 5 million.

A marketplace listing does not change any of that. The platform is not the seller. The person behind the listing is, and the law applies to them exactly as it would to a stall in a bazaar.

The problem with a listing

A listing proves nothing about three things that matter:

Red flags in a listing

What the buyer risks

You are not a bystander. Flying with prohibited string is an offence in your own name, carrying three to five years and a fine of up to Rs 2 million, regardless of who sold it or what they said it was. Police in Lahore have been seizing kites and banned string through September, including 600 kites in a single Race Course raid.

If you still want to buy through a marketplace

Treat the listing as an introduction, not a purchase.

  1. Ask for the seller's registration details and check them.
  2. Ask what the dor is made of, its tar and its count. The answer you want is cotton, 9 tar at most, 28 count at least.
  3. Insist on a pinna with a QR code, and scan it when it arrives, before you pay the balance.
  4. Do not pay in full in advance to someone you cannot identify.

The pattern to watch for is the listing that is honest about the kite and silent about the line. A cheap gudda with "dor included" is the most common way coated or unmarked line reaches a roof, because the buyer is looking at the kite. If a listing bundles dor, ask about the dor first and the kite second.

Frequently asked

Is it legal to buy kite dor on OLX?

Only if the seller is registered and the dor is lawful: cotton, 9 tar at most, on a QR-coded pinna. The listing itself proves neither.

Does Daraz sell legal kites?

Daraz is a marketplace, so it depends on the individual seller. Check the seller's registration and the QR code on any dor before paying.

What does "manjha" mean in a listing?

In Pakistan it usually means coated line — glass or chemical. Coated line is banned, and buying it puts you at risk too.

What happens if I buy banned dor online?

Flying with prohibited string carries three to five years and a fine of up to Rs 2 million. The seller being online makes no difference.

Kites, dor and everything that goes with them

Everything we supply is plain cotton dor on QR-coded pinnay: a 2-piece pinna is Rs 8,000. The 1 tawa gudda is Rs 350 and the 1.5 tawa is Rs 450, both sold singly. See the products and prices.

Selling is paused while our registration is suspended by the Punjab Government — see the notice. The products and prices stay published so you can plan, and we answer questions either way.
