1 Tawa Gudda Price

A 1 tawa gudda is Rs 350 at our published price

Guddas held up in a crowded Lahore kite market, the everyday size being bought

A 1 tawa gudda is Rs 350 at our published price. It is the everyday gudda, the cheapest kite on a Basant roof, and the one people spend the least time thinking about — which is backwards, because it is also the size that decides whether the afternoon works.

What tawa means as a measurement is on the kite types page. What the law allows is on the size page. The larger gudda and whether it is worth the extra is on the 1.5 tawa page. This page is about the Rs 350.

What Rs 350 gets you

A gudda of about 35 inches, built to fly in the wind Lahore actually has on an ordinary Basant afternoon rather than the wind it has for two hours on a good day.

That last part is the whole value. A kite is paper, spar and a bridle, and at this size none of those are expensive. What you are paying for is that the spar is straight, the paper is not already creased, and the kanni points sit where they should. A gudda that fails any of the three is not cheaper — it is a kite you launch twice and put down.

Why the 1 tawa is the gudda Lahore actually flies

Three reasons, none of them price.

It flies in poor wind. Most Basant hours are not the good hours. A smaller sail gets up in the still part of the afternoon when the bigger kite sits on the roof.

It is forgiving. A bad launch with a 1 tawa is a bad launch. A bad launch with something larger is a bad launch that pulls.

It is the one you can afford to lose. Kites go. A roof that is fighting pech will lose several across the festival, and losing a Rs 350 kite is a shrug. This is why stocking up on the cheap size and keeping one or two larger ones is the pattern that works.

How many a roof gets through

More than people buy, and the shortfall always lands on the last afternoon.

A kite lost to a pech is gone, because the one rule nobody should break is that you do not chase a falling kite — what happens to the people who do is the reason it is a safety rule rather than an etiquette one. Across the festival a roof with two or three people flying seriously will lose a good number of them.

The kite list sets out quantities properly. The short version: buy more 1 tawa than feels sensible. It is the cheapest correction available, and the alternative is buying the shortfall in Basant week, when rates have already climbed.

Telling two guddas apart at the same rate

Everything at Rs 350 looks the same in a stack. Four things separate them.

None of this is exotic. It is a thirty-second check on a stack, and it is the difference between a dozen kites that all fly and a dozen where several never leave the roof.

Buying one, and when

Rates climb in the fortnight before Basant. Buying in December rather than the first week of March is the largest discount available on the whole roof, and it applies harder to dor than to kites — but it applies to both.

Where to buy and how to tell a registered seller from an unregistered one is on the kite shop page. The one thing worth repeating here: a gudda sold without a lawful QR-coded pinna to fly it on is half a purchase, and what the QR actually proves is worth two minutes before you pay.

Frequently asked

What is the price of a 1 tawa gudda in Lahore?

Rs 350 at our published price for Basant 2027. No government rate list has been notified for 2027, so any figure quoted today is a seller's published price rather than an official one.

How many 1 tawa guddas should I buy for the whole festival?

More than you expect to need. Kites lost to a pech are not recovered, a serious roof loses several a day, and buying the shortfall in Basant week is the expensive way to discover it.

What makes one gudda better than another at the same price?

A straight spar, uncreased paper, reinforced kanni points and a proper tail attachment. All four are visible in a thirty-second check on the stack.

Is Rs 350 a fixed rate for Basant 2027?

No. It is our published price. No rate list has been notified by the Punjab Government for 2027.

Can I buy a single 1 tawa gudda?

Yes. Guddas are sold individually rather than by the dozen, so you can buy the exact number your roof needs.
