1.5 Tawa Kite Price

A 1

Large guddas stacked on a Lahore kite stall, a buyer lifting one from the pile

A 1.5 tawa gudda is Rs 450 at our published price. A 1 tawa is Rs 350. That Rs 100 is the whole question this page answers, because the larger kite is not simply a better kite — it is a different kite, and it is the wrong purchase more often than people expect.

What a 1.5 tawa measures and why the law stops there is on the size page. How gudda, patang and dor are priced in general is on the price page. This page is about the Rs 450 itself.

What Rs 450 buys

Three things, in order of what actually costs money.

More paper and more spar. A 1.5 tawa is 40 inches wide by 34 long. A 1 tawa is about 35 wide. That is a bigger sail on a longer spine, and a kite built to the legal ceiling has to be built properly or it folds.

The largest kite you may lawfully fly. There is nothing above it. A 2 tawa is not a premium option you are being upsold, it is outside the rules, and a seller offering one is telling you something about the rest of their stock.

A frame that has to hold a harder pull. This is the part that does not show in the price. A bigger sail in the same wind pulls harder, and the spar and the kanni points have to take it.

Why it costs Rs 100 more, not twice as much

Guddas are priced by size across a narrow lawful range — pona at the bottom, 1 tawa in the middle, 1.5 tawa at the ceiling — and the whole range sits inside a band, not a multiple. Between our own 1 tawa and 1.5 tawa that difference is Rs 100. A 1.5 tawa quoted at several times a 1 tawa is not being priced as a kite.

That narrowness cuts the other way too. If you are choosing between sizes to save money, you are optimising the cheapest line on the whole bill. Ten kites is Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,500; one pinna is Rs 8,000. Where the money actually goes has the arithmetic.

When the 1.5 tawa is the wrong buy

The honest part of a price page.

On a light-wind roof. A 1.5 tawa wants steady wind. In the still hours it sits on the ground while a 1 tawa is already up. If your roof is enclosed or low among taller buildings, the extra Rs 100 has bought you a kite that stays down.

For a first-time flyer. A larger sail is less forgiving of a bad launch and pulls harder once it catches. How to fly a patang covers the launch; the short version is that the 1 tawa teaches it and the 1.5 tawa punishes it.

For a child. Not a matter of price. A kite that pulls harder than the person holding it is how hands get cut. What a child can safely fly, and at what age goes through it.

When it is the only kite you buy. Wind changes across the festival. A roof with only 1.5 tawa kites has nothing to fly on a slow afternoon.

The cost nobody quotes you

Choosing the 1.5 tawa is not a Rs 100 decision. It is a decision about line.

A bigger kite under load wants a firmer dor, and dor is the expensive half of a Basant roof by a wide margin — a 2-piece pinna is Rs 8,000 against Rs 450 for the kite it is flying. What a pinna costs and which one a roof needs is the page that matters more than this one if you are buying 1.5 tawa kites seriously.

Gloves are Rs 750 and per person, not per roof. A kite that pulls harder is exactly the case where bare hands stop being an option.

Frequently asked

What is the price of a 1.5 tawa kite?

Rs 450 at our published price in Lahore for Basant 2027. A 1 tawa gudda is Rs 350. No government rate list has been notified for 2027, so any figure quoted today is a seller's published price rather than an official one.

Why does a 1.5 tawa cost more than a 1 tawa?

More paper, more spar, and a frame that has to hold a harder pull. At 40 × 34 inches it is also the largest gudda the Punjab rules permit, so it is the top of the lawful size band rather than a premium grade.

Is a 1.5 tawa kite worth it for a beginner?

Usually not. It wants steady wind, it is less forgiving of a bad launch and it pulls harder once it catches. A 1 tawa at Rs 350 is the kite that teaches you to fly.

How many 1.5 tawa kites should I buy?

Depends on the roof rather than the budget, and kites are the cheapest thing on it. The kite list sets out quantities; a mix of sizes beats a stack of one size because the wind changes across the festival.

Is there an official 1.5 tawa rate for Basant 2027?

No. No rate list has been notified. Rs 450 is our published price, not a regulated one.
